How buyers upload certificates

Resale Proof supports two buyer upload paths: the Shopify customer-account portal and magic-link upload. Both create the same pending certificate record for merchant review.

Customer-account portal

Use the portal when the buyer can sign in to their Shopify customer account.

The buyer opens their account profile, selects Add certificate, chooses the state and certificate type, uploads a PDF or fills an in-app form when available, verifies their email, signs, and submits.

Best for:

Use magic links when the buyer should not have to sign in.

The merchant sends a single-use upload link from Resale Proof. The buyer opens the link, submits the certificate information, signs, and receives confirmation. The link expires and cannot be reused after submission.

Best for:

What the buyer submits

Depending on the jurisdiction, the buyer either uploads an existing certificate PDF or fills a generated form in-app. Resale Proof captures:

What happens after submit

The certificate lands in the merchant’s pending review queue. Nothing becomes tax-exempt until the merchant approves the certificate.

Approval is the step that applies Shopify’s tax exemption values and records the audit event.
