Why Resale Proof is not tax advice
Resale Proof is workflow software for Shopify merchants. It helps collect, review, store, renew, sync, and export certificate records. It is not a law firm, accounting firm, CPA, or state tax agency.
What Resale Proof does
Resale Proof helps merchants:
- request resale or exemption certificates from buyers;
- collect PDFs or generated-form submissions;
- review certificate metadata before approval;
- apply Shopify’s native tax exemption values after approval;
- track expiration and renewal reminders;
- export certificate evidence for audit prep.
What Resale Proof does not decide
Resale Proof does not decide:
- whether a buyer is legally exempt;
- whether a certificate is valid under a specific state’s law;
- whether a specific product or transaction qualifies for exemption;
- whether your business has nexus in a state;
- whether your store should collect tax in a jurisdiction;
- whether a state auditor will accept a specific document.
Those questions belong with a CPA, SALT advisor, attorney, or the relevant state tax agency.
When to involve an advisor
Get professional review when:
- you sell into many states;
- you are unsure where you have nexus;
- a buyer sends an unusual certificate type;
- a certificate is missing required information;
- you sell products with special taxability rules;
- you are responding to an audit or state notice.
Practical rule
Use Resale Proof to keep the workflow clean and the records organized. Use a qualified advisor for legal or tax conclusions.
